The Volunteering Culture at Gateway

Gateway has developed a volunteering culture that is an integral part of our organisation. We recruit, train and support volunteers to ensure that they have a positive and rewarding experience.

An individual approach is taken to encourage self development and to recognize each volunteers personal contribution that they make to the community through our organisation.

Volunteers Volunteers

Why People Volunteer with Gateway?

Positive experiences: Gateway has a vibrant, active and committed volunteer team. Why? Because we praise our volunteers on their strengths and the unique skills they bring to the programs and ensure that they are placed in a volunteering role that brings out their best attributes. We ensure they are comfortable and happy in their role by providing a clear volunteer role description.

Social Networks: Gateway facilitates regular social networking functions that include morning teas, information sessions and end of year celebrations.

These sessions are designed to allow volunteers to let their hair down and just enjoy some "chill out time" and get to know their fellow volunteer colleagues. This further enhances the feeling of social inclusion and strengthens the volunteering team spirit.

Flexibility: Gateway provides flexibility in volunteer commitment. Volunteers have the flexibility to take part and support various programs. These options are made available to ensure volunteers don't feel "locked into" a program and they can choose to volunteer around their changing lifestyles.

Personal Development Opportunities: Volunteers are encouraged and empowered to take part in both formal and informal training opportunities through the Home & Community Care (HACC) training programs.

Support: The Coordinator of Volunteers provides ongoing support and direction to volunteers and is the key point of contact for all issues relating to their volunteering roles.
