Friendly Visitor Program

The Friendly Visitor program is designed for individual community members who are socially isolated and can benefit from a GATEWAY volunteer providing social companionship, and practical assistance, through in-house visits or community outings such as coffee, lunch, or movies.

The aim is to reduce social isolation, and assist individuals to remain part of the community.

The Friendly Visitor program is not a Respite service. The Friendly Visitor program's primary focus is that of social support and meeting the needs of the individuals who are frail aged or have a disability; unlike respite services where the primary focus is on the carer.

The Friendly Visitor Program runs yearly from the 1st Monday in January until the 3rd Friday in December. The days of operation are Monday through to Sunday, and visits depend on the most suitable time for both Client and Volunteer.

Visits can last from a minimum of 1 hour to a maximum of 6 hours at any one time. Hours should not exceed a total of 24 hours within a one month period. The approved hours for visiting are from 8am until 6pm, any visits that occur outside of these hours must be approved by the Gateways staff.
